GeneSight® Pharmacogenomic Testing in Ridgeland, MS

Turned Leaf Psychiatry is a proud GeneSight partner, offering pharmacogenomic testing that can inform — not replace — clinical judgment.

Who this may be appropriate for

Testing is often discussed with patients who have tried multiple psychiatric medications without clear benefit, who have experienced troublesome side effects, or who want additional information before starting a new medication. It is one input among many, and your provider will tell you whether it is a reasonable step for your situation. Learn more at genesight.com.

What the process involves

  • Discussion of whether testing is appropriate during a psychiatric visit.
  • A simple cheek swab collected in our Ridgeland office.
  • Laboratory analysis by GeneSight.
  • Review of the report with you and how it fits your treatment plan.

What the results do and do not mean

Pharmacogenomic information may help reduce guesswork by describing how your genes could affect the way you process certain medications. It does not guarantee that a medication will work, that side effects will not occur, or that a change is needed. Results are always interpreted alongside your history and your response over time during medication-management follow-up.

Your provider and where we see you

Care is led by Stephen P. Sweeney, PMHNP-BC, a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, alongside the wider Turned Leaf Psychiatry team and our collaborating physicians in Mississippi and Tennessee. Visits are in person at our Ridgeland office.

Frequently asked questions

What does GeneSight® testing show?
It is a pharmacogenomic test that looks at how your genes may affect your response to certain psychiatric medications. It provides information a prescriber can consider — it does not diagnose a condition.
Does the test guarantee a medication will work?
No. Pharmacogenomic results may inform prescribing decisions, but they do not guarantee that any medication will work or be free of side effects. Clinical history and your response over time still guide treatment.
How is the sample collected?
GeneSight uses a simple cheek swab collected in the office during your visit.
Who might consider testing?
It is often discussed with patients who have tried several psychiatric medications without a clear benefit, or who have had difficult side effects. Your provider will tell you whether it is appropriate in your case.
What does it cost?
Testing is billed separately from your visit and coverage varies by plan. Call (601) 494-5503 for service-specific pricing and benefit questions.
