Anxiety and Depression Treatment in Ridgeland, MS

A careful assessment first, then a treatment plan built around your history, your goals, and how you actually respond.

Who this may be appropriate for

People who have been living with persistent worry, panic symptoms, low mood, loss of interest, irritability, sleep disruption, or difficulty functioning at work or at home may benefit from a psychiatric evaluation. Some patients are seeking care for the first time; others have tried treatment before and want a fresh look. This page is general information, not a diagnosis — only an evaluation can determine what is going on for you.

How the assessment works

  • A full psychiatric interview, with time to actually talk.
  • Review of medical history, sleep, stressors, and substance use.
  • Review of any prior medications and how you responded to them.
  • Diagnostic clarification when previous treatment has not worked.

Care may include medication management, monitoring at follow-up visits, and coordination with a therapist. For treatment-resistant depression, bipolar disorder, or other complex presentations, our complex psychiatry care includes long-acting injectable options and close follow-up.

Ongoing care

Treatment continues through scheduled medication-management visits where we review symptom change, side effects, and functioning. We do not guarantee a particular result; we do commit to reviewing the plan honestly and changing it when it is not working.

Your provider and where we see you

Care is led by Stephen P. Sweeney, PMHNP-BC, a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, alongside the wider Turned Leaf Psychiatry team and our collaborating physicians in Mississippi and Tennessee. Visits are in person at our Ridgeland office.

Frequently asked questions

Do you treat anxiety and depression together?
Yes. Anxiety and depressive symptoms frequently occur together, and the evaluation looks at both rather than treating them as separate visits.
Will I be prescribed medication at the first visit?
Not automatically. Medication is discussed when it is clinically appropriate, and the plan is decided with you after the evaluation.
Do you provide therapy?
Turned Leaf Psychiatry provides psychiatric evaluation and medication management. We coordinate with therapists and can discuss referral for therapy as part of your plan.
What if previous treatment has not worked?
Treatment-resistant depression and unclear diagnoses are a focus of our complex psychiatry care. We start by re-examining the diagnosis and the treatment history before changing the plan.
How long will treatment take?
That varies by person and we do not promise a particular outcome or timeline. Progress is reviewed at each follow-up visit and the plan is adjusted as needed.
